RE: 911

I was at work watching things unfold on the television. I work in aviation and since all aircraft were grounded by the FAA, we didn't see any of our aircraft for a few days as they were still out in the field and they didn't make it back to base. It was a daily reminder for me of what had just happened to our country. It's a moment that I'll never forget.

RE: Can you Line X a roof

A neighbor of mine that is in construction just coated his upper deck located off of his detached garage with it. He has valuables down below that need protection from the elements and he swears that it is weather proof. It works well in the back off my truck. I think that you might have a problem with it adhering to the surface of your roof. Good Luck.

RE: Toilet Paper

I use Scott Rapid-Dessolving toilet paper available in the RV/Automotive section at Wal-Mart. It costs around $2.68, which I figure is about a dollar more than regular toilet paper. I've had enough issues with the septic system at my house so I don't take a chance with my travel trailer. I know that the travel trailer doesn't have a septic tank but if the toilet paper doesn't break down, you could have some unwanted issues. Happy camping.

RE: hitch ball

Just goes to show you can never be too observant. Maybe others who are not sure what they had installed will double check theirs.

RE: preparing TT for possible hurricane

i forgot to mention that the camper is 34ft long with a 9.5ft height and a weight of 7000lbs. if that really matters. Although it was never classified as a tornado, wind moved my 7000 lb camper over about 3 feet back in February. Luckily I only had to replace the 2 front stabilizer jacks. The jackscrew on one of the stabilizer jacks bent my main line from the propane bottles pretty good but did not puncture the line. There is just no way to predict what may or may not happen to your trailer in those kind of winds. Good luck

RE: New Jayco 31RKS

Well, we have sold the 29BHS and gotten 31 RKS. I sure hope "I" (dw) enjoy the 31 RKS as much as I have the 29BHS...DH and boys fell in love with the room in the 31 RKS and wanted this more than me.(I really loved our 29 BHS.) I love the floor plan and gained alot of cabinet space.(The only thing different in ours, Jayco floor plan shows Jack knife sofa, ours actuallys has hide-a-bed.) In fact, finished transferring everything this morning, and didn't even fill it up.. the boys couldn't believe I actually had cabinets with nothing in them..As far as the product, Jayco is all we have ever owned. Not one time, did we have trouble with the other. Hope, luck continues with this one. Can't wait until we get started camping with this one Atleast we have one trip already planned, Topsail for May 30-June 6- booked today. (cant' believe how fast Topsail fills up)until then, lots of camping at local COE Park....:) I live close to you. Where did you buy and did they give you good deal? I was possibly thinking about upgrading myself.

RE: air conditioner

If you need to replace the filter, the material can be found at Wal-Mart for about $2.00 on the aisle with household filters. You'll have to cut to fit and it is enough for 2.

RE: CH 751 key

The doors on my automobile, home, and storage shed are by far more difficult to compromise then the storage door on the average TT. I'm glad you think so because it really all depends on the tool being used. Funny how ones question has caused such a stir of emotion.

RE: CH 751 key

There sure are a lot of people on here who believe that it doesn't help to change out the locks on their RV simply because if someone wants to get inside the storage compartments then they will. I bet those same people lock the door to their automobiles, homes, and storage sheds in their back yard even though the same principal applies. If you have ever been a victim of theft, you tend to think about security more than others I suppose.

RE: CH 751 key

I think people are missing the point here. Your RV isn't always at a campground with honest people. RV owners might keep them at their house or storage place when not in use. I keep my RV at my house and if someone came along with one of these easily procurable CH751 keys and unlocked my storage compartments to retrieve the items, I probably wouldn't know for months about the theft. Bottom line is that if your lock is a keyed 751 cylinder, it's like not having a lock. I'm all for swapping out the locks myself. I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. There are several options out there for people who choose to swap out their locks. Besides it might just keep someone "honest". Of course this is just my opinion.

RE: buying gas

Get a portable GPS and download Love's and/or Flying J gas stations from POI-factory.com to update the GPS with all of their locations and you will not have to worry about it. There are also a bunch of other interesting points of interest to download from that website. Happy trailering

RE: Rear Ladder

A large percentage of ladders installed on newer rigs are made by Atwood. Recently I installed a ladder on my travel trailer after calling Jayco for the part number. I went to the dealer and supplied them with the part number and they produced an Atwood ladder with a different part number. Since then I have noticed Atwood ladders on numerous brands of RVs. Have you considered installing the ladder without the one roof mount installed? I started to only install one on mine simply because I did not want any extra holes in my roof. You would need to verify that you would feel safe with your transition on and off of the roof of course. I believe that the reinforced walls for a ladder leave something to be desired. Jayco uses a 5/8” piece of plywood stapled to the 2 x 2” wall stud. I’m sure most of the manufacturers are probably the same. I took off my back wall and installed 2x4”s as blockers and discarded the 5/8” pieces of plywood. With this in mind, I feel that the ladder should only be used for access to the roof and not for hauling bikes or other items during transport. Good luck in getting your ladder installed.

RE: 1 yr old Rockwood leaking, won't cover under active warranty

I'd send the picture to the manufacturer and tell them thanks for all of their help that they have given you. Be sure to let them know that you'll do some advertising on their behalf. It is a shame that a company offers a warranty that they will not back up.

RE: Jayco parts new or used

I called Jayco recently and they gave me part numbers for doors, hinges, and handles that I inquired about. I explained to them that I was wanting to make a few mods. Now all I need to do is go to my local dealer to order the parts with the part numbers provided by Jayco. Good luck

RE: GPS ??

I'd go with the Garmin Nuvi 750 for the price. Sam's Club dropped their price in store and online to $299.99.

RE: HELP NEEDED

I don’t think any RV Dealer gives out loaners do they? If you spend enough money and they value you as a customer they'll give you a loaner. My neighbors just got one. Bad thing was, they get it to the campground and discover that the black tank was full :( . Tracy

RE: Open Black Water Drain Cap Slowly

I installed one of these after forgeting to close my blacktank after dumping one time. Never had a problem again. Twist-on Valve Mike Hard to go wrong with a little extra insurance. I use the same product myself. Tracy

Ceiling Vent Duct for A/C

While looking at someone else's A/C on an older RV, I couldn't figure something out so I pulled my A/C Ceiling Shroud down to hopefully use as a reference. It didn't help me with the task at hand. I did find an issue with my own unit though. I've got a Jayco that has the ceiling duct for numerous ceiling vents and I found that the roofing material was blocking at least 40% of the opening for the duct. That in turn was restricting what was coming out of my ceiling vents. It appears to me, that at the factory the holes are cut on the roof before laying the seamless one-piece roof (made of TPO) down and then they cut and tuck the material out of the way. Just careless oversight at the factory. I simply trimmed the material away and my duct opening is no longer blocked. We now have increased airflow from our ceiling vents. Just thought I'd share this find in case it helps someone else.

RE: help on gps

I've got a Nuvi 350 and will be upgrading to the Nuvi 700 or 800 series. I sent my family on a 6 hour trip with the GPS and it took them down a different path at 2 locations than what I normally travel and added about 25 miles. At least if you know where you are wanting to go, you can ignore the route at a certain point and it will recalculate once you've gone another way. I called Garmin and they said that only the 700 or 800 in the Nuvi series allows the user to build a route and then save the route.
